I’m mexican, and I’ve never used the word “matar” for something other than “to kill”
to strike closely resembles the spanish word “pegar” similar to “to hit”
to beat resembles “golpear”
I don’t know if these are the exact dictionary definitions, but that’s the way I use these verbs

Hi, just to tell you that matar has no accent.
As far as I know, as a Spanish speaker, matar is not ambiguous.
You can kill somebody (I’m not suggesting you do.)
You can kill time. Me puse a conversar con tu amigo para matar el tiempo.
You can also say
Me mato con indiferencia meaning that this person ignored you and you were not expecting it.
I don’t think it can mean strike or beat, or at least I’ve never used it in that sense.
I know this is too little to help you but it’s a starting point.
